Charles-Seidel

Charles Wayne Seidel
Texron Operating, LLC Exploration and Production Manager.

Mr. Seidel began working in the oil and gas industry during the summers of his high school years. From 1982 to 1985, he was employed by his uncle and his partner. They owned a workover rig, a lease crew, and a drilling rig capable of drilling 10,000 wells. Mr. Seidel’s summers throughout high school were spent welding, working on both workovers and drilling rigs, and running the only lease crew. Additionally, he soaped daily the Rettig field lease in Webb County.

Mr. Seidel graduated high school in May of 1985 and started to work for Grace drilling company as a motor man in the horizontal Austin chalk boom of south Texas. He worked his way from motors to derricks to driller in a matter of months. All the work was in the Big Wells Texas area of south Texas for Sun Oil Company and their partner company, Oryx. In 1987, Mr. Seidel was offered a job as a lease operator for Oryx. He accepted and left the rigs to begin work in production.

He worked for Sun (Oryx) until they sold the field in 1989.
In 1989, Mr. Seidel went to work as a pumper for Trans American Oil and Gas Company in Laredo, Texas. He worked for three months as a pumper, then advanced to Forman over the Webb County south system. He was responsible for 11 pumpers, handled about 80 mmcf of gas a day and 10,000 bbls of condensate a day.

In 1991, North central Oil Corporation bought the Hereford ranch from
Sanchez O’Brien Oil and Gas in the Rio Brivo area of Webb County. Mr. Seidel was offered the pumping job for the lease. From 1991 to 1992 he ran the daily wells, moving compressors and doing the daily production work.

In 1992 the company set out on a workover program within the Hereford ranch composed of 5000 acres holding seventy-five wells. Of those 75 wells 59 were re completed. This involved pulling packers, milling packers, squeezing, perforating, logging, drilling out plugs, drilling wells deeper, frac’ing wells, laying new gathering lines and installing central compressor stations. As a result, the field was taken from about 1.5 mmcf per day and 20 bbls of oil to 30 mmcf and 500 bbls of oil.

The company continued to grow at a great pace and in 1995 they had 5 drilling rigs running over a 100,000 acre stretch of Webb and Zapata counties. There were also three workover rigs running, three location building crews, five lease crews and welders running with 15 pumpers.

Mr. Seidel was responsible for meeting landowners, staking locations, building locations, setting up gate guards, laying water lines, building frac pits and production tank batteries, logging the wells, and completing and frac’ing the wells. He assisted in drilling, completing and putting to sales an estimated 300 wells in Webb and Zapata County.
